The Museum of Fine Arts and Lace (Musée des Beaux-Arts et de la Dentelle) features exhibitions of lacework as well as a wide range of Cambodian art and French, Italian and Scandinavian paintings from the 15th to the early 20th century. Temporary exhibitions are regularly organised there, in particular featuring famous fashion designers.
The Château des Ducs is a fortress in Alençon which was built by Pierre II, the count of Alençon. The dukes who succeeded him extended the fortifications until they covered what is today Place Foch. Only a part of this Alençon fortress remains, but the castle still dominates the city with its two massive towers and the crowned tower within the defensive walls.
The Parc des Promenades (covering over 10 acres) is where the people of Alençon love to go for a stroll! It's near to the town hall and the law courts and it features a bandstand, a lake, children's play areas, and some animal enclosures. Various shows are held in the park on a regular basis.
Other places to visit include the manor house at Couesme (Le Manoir de Couesme) or the church and chapel at Saint-Céneri-le-Gérai (Église et Chapelle de Saint-Céneri-le-Gérai). Enjoy your stay in Normandy!
